Permanent Dentures

If you find yourself a candidate for tooth extraction then you will also be in need of tooth replacement. You will have to replace those extracted teeth with individual teeth or possibly with dentures. When I mention individual teeth I am talking about two or three teeth that can be placed in the sockets in which the teeth had been removed, and then joined to each other and also to the anchor teeth right beside them.

If however, you have had all your teeth extracted then you may want to think about having removable acrylic dentures. We all know what the conventional, removable acrylic dentures appear like. On the other hand, you may want to have permanent dentures. The permanent dentures are likewise known as implants.

Implants are put into the mouth surgically and set on about three screws which are placed into the upper or lower jaw. These screws will function as the mount that holds the permanent dentures in position. The permanent dentures could be placed into the mouth soon after extraction or later on. The best way to get implants set into place is immediately after the extraction. The denture will be fixed into the ridge created by the extraction.

When you insert you implants this way then you will feel as though you have your natural teeth, since you have not ever been without teeth. When you wait, then you might have been without your teeth for a while, and when these implants are set in place they will feel foreign. It will also take you longer to get accustomed to having teeth inside your mouth again.

Prior to deciding what kind of dentures you want, you need to do a little homework or research. After you have found the different kinds of dentures to choose from, talk to your dentist about what you have found and see if he has any other thing to offer. He may let you know what type of dentures could be best for you. You can now make a decision. On the other hand, there is still one more thing you have to do in order to make sure that your decision is a good one.

One more thing that you have to do is check out your insurance plan, to see if it covers the kind of denture that you have decided on. Not all insurance providers cover dental work, and most specifically dentures. You will want to talk to your insurance company about the denture which you decided on and see if your insurance plan covers the particular denture. If it does not cover the denture that you have decided on then ask the kind of denture it does cover. The same applies to those that have Medicare or Medicaid. Medicare is only going to cover the extraction but not the denture. To know what Medicaid covers you must talk to your counselor at the Department of Human Services.

Considering these two programs to see which one will cover the denture that you want should be done prior to telling your dentist what your decision will be. You would not want to make the arrangements and start the work only to learn that you cannot afford to pay for it.
