Majority of us, when we socialize and mingle with our friends and drink coffee in our favorite coffee shops, we can not help but order a slice of the tasty and oh-so-scrumptious coffee cakes they offer. But, when asked, do you even know what a coffee cake is?

In most coffee shops, they typically state that they specialize in coffee cakes and coffee cake recipes, that they have coffee cakes provided, in which, is one of the key reasons why the majority of people typically think that coffee cakes, are well, cakes that are made out of coffee, or whose main ingredient is coffee. But, that my friend is an extremely incorrect means of defining what a coffee cake is. After all, coffee cakes are not made of coffee. Most of them do not even have the slightest pinch of coffee in their list of components. But, why are they called coffee cakes when they aren't made of coffee? Nice question.

Coffee Cakes are known as coffee cakes, that is because they are the ideal complimentary dish or dessert for the oh-so-bitter drink we all have come to know and love, coffee. To put things simply, coffee tastes bitter, coffee cake tastes sweet. These coffee cakes may range from honey cakes, to flat cakes, to chocolate coffee cakes, vanilla, cinnamon, and so on and so forth. The list just goes on and on. Their association with coffee could well be the main reason why they're labeled coffee cakes, rather than their more common names, such as chocolate cakes and etc.

Hopefully, the next time you read or hear the term coffee cake, you wouldn't think that it's a variety of cake made of coffee. Remember, as I've said a lot of times in this article, coffee cakes and coffee complements each other.
