An EBook Book Reader Produced By Acer Inc. All Set To Take On Kindle
Acer Inc., no one's fool when it comes to competing in the personal computer arena, plans to be in the ebook book reader arena later this year.
Acer executive Jim Wong, leader of the company's IT Goods division, outlined the plans in an interview with Bloomberg at Acer's HQ in Taipei.
The day before Apple's purported entry into the tablet sweeps-a model that would serve e book readers as well as others-Wong also said the company will also put forward "hundreds" of apps online, programs that can support Google's Android platform, at this time running on several Acer goods, as well as supporting Microsoft's Windows OS.
Before this summer is out, Acer is projected to make available an e-book reader with a 150 mm monochrome display, Mr. Wong told Bloomberg. "Amazon and B&N; they are American. In Europe and Asia-Pacific we have publishers to work with, and most of them are subject matter owners," he said. Acer should go up against devices including the Kindle dx , B&N Inc.'s Nook and Sony's Prs 300 and so it will be easy to compare ebook reader models.
Acer also has the Apple "iSlate"-if it emerges-to contend with. "We're producing something, and we will see what occures" J.T. Wang, Acer's president, maintained in the report. "We're sure to work moreover in the Windows world or within Google's distinct OS space."
