The Maasai Mara game park is if anything Kenya's most frequented game reserve. It is the most well known and most patronized game reserve in Kenya.

Every year the Mara plays host to the world's ultimate natural event, the Great Wildebeest Migration from across the Serengeti. From July to October, the promise of rainfall and fresh life supporting grass in the north pulls in greater than 1.3 million Wildebeest together into a single colossal herd. They pour across the border into the Mara, making an awesome entrance in a soaring column of life that stretches beyond the horizon.
At the Mara River they load together on the banks before eventually plunging forward through the raging waters, causing frenzy as they battle against swift currents and ready crocodiles.
The wildebeest bring new life to the Mara, not merely through their cycle of rebirth of the grasslands, but also for the predators that follow the herds.
The Masai Mara has been called the Kingdom of Lions and these noble and strong hunters rule over these grasslands. Cheetahs are also a frequent sight in the Mara, as are Hyena and minor predators such as Jackals.
The Mara is a great natural beauty, a place where Masai warriors share the plains with hunting lions, a place of great herds and ageless cycles of life, death and renewal.
Wildlife moves freely in and out of the sanctuary and around neighboring Masai lands. On the outside of the boundaries of the reserve, can be found many small camping sites and lodges, some of which provide walking, horse riding and other safari possibilities.
The Loita Hills and the Nguruman escarpment, both thought of as holy to the Masai, provide high forest trekking opportunities for the adventurous visitor.
How to get there:
Road access to Masai Mara is via Narok town, a 3 hours drive from Nairobi. You may wish to fly to the Mara, which is served by 4 man airstrips. Daily routine flights from Nairobi and Mombasa are offered. Private Charters also use these airstrips. Accessing the Mara area is difficult without own transport.
Masai Mara Safari:
Most vacationers visit Masai Mara on a safari package from Nairobi or in a rented car. The reserve has very well set up internal roads and tracks. Accessing areas outside the reserve is only probable using simple public transportation, and finding your way around can be complex.
